Real Estate Property Management San Diego
for the Community of Solana Beach
Community:
Solana Beach enjoys a sunny and fortunate location along the beach in the North San Diego County. The name actually means "sunny" in Spanish. There is evidence that the area's earliest settlers were California Indians who thrived on the area's abundant sunshine, seafood and wildlife in around 9000 BC. The Spanish traveled through the area on their way to Monterey in 1769. Their trek north is still commemorated by the El Camino Real which runs through the eastern edge of the town. The area was part of the Rancho San Dieguito granted to Juan Maria Osuna in 1840. When the county of San Diego was established in 1850 the population of the district was listed as 790. The first American homesteader was William A. Ewing who took up 180 acres in the San Dieguito River valley in 1862. Development began to accelerate when the Lake Hodges Dam was built in 1917-18, and water became readily available. The area boomed in the 20s when Ed Fletcher, a well-known San Diego civic leader, bought 140 acres at $20 an acre to establish the town. The area was promoted as an avocado growing region. In order to provide the town with an ocean view, Fletcher Cove was created using hydraulic water pressure to erode tons of earth. That took one man three months with a fire hose and water from the Lake Hodges spillway. The great depression slowed development but by the 1950s the area was growing again. The city was incorporated in 1986 and currently has approximately 14,000 residents. Property values have continued to increase, and the community is home to many artisans, high tech businesses and professionals. The train station was moved from Del Mar to Solana Beach in 1995 and a new station was constructed shortly thereafter. Its modern architecture has become a local landmark. The Cedros Design District is home to a number of artisans, decorators and antique dealers..
